I directed, filmed, and edited a documentary short. On my phone.

When I completed a five-month program with Austin Film Society to learn the technical side of directing in early 2024, I was fired up to direct something. But I didn’t want to wait for funds, permission, or any other factors. So, I ordered a gimbal and a microphone and I filmed my Dad and his friends over a couple of months down on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

The documentary is called “Lazy Turtle Club” because that’s what they called themselves; this group of retirees who met up every day around 4:30 for one hour for years & years. To drink beer, shoot the breeze, and share fishing stories.

Fun Fact: “Lazy Turtle Club” was a Semi Finalist in the Berlin Shorts Award for September 2024.
